Our proposal of a community center and contemplation shelter feature “origami” thatch roof and utilize local building materials. more
The octagonal “origami” thatch roof is our interpretation of Siargao’s vernacular thatch roof architecture. It’s made of coconut timber planks as roof trusses with Cogon thatch to cover the roof, creating a simple yet dramatic multipurpose space for various activities to take place on the first floor.
The shape is chosen not only for its cultural aesthetics, but also for its modularity, ensuring better workmanship and easier understanding of roof construction by the local workers.
